"I was so inspired by your talk that I just have to share! Since Wednesday night, I have ceased living out of laundry baskets... (I knew I had a problem last week when all four baskets were full of clean stuff and I emptied a dry load into a cardboard box! LOL) I love the sight of empty baskets! For some reason, it just reduces my anxiety like you wouldn't believe! :)
I have cleaned off my fridge of all the clutter (bye bye to half my magnets!), and cleaned out our craft corner, throwing away lots, saving a bit, and organizing the rest. We got a new wicker storage unit to keep the stuff in, and it looks a lot nicer than the change table we were using (in our dining room!).
I also spent several hours going through summer clothes and boxing up stuff that doesn't fit, putting all the winter stuff out, etc. Going through everthing helped me realize what we did and didn't need for the girls. We needed a lot less that I thought, and if I hadn't gotten organized first I would have overspent on things like jammies, sweaters, and shoes, all of which I eventually came across while digging through boxes. Having a box of stuff to get rid of (borrowed things to return) made me realize the "one in one out" plan could come into play... I was getting rid of lots, so Saturday I went shopping for some stuff to bring in! I went to the Mom-to-Mom sale and got a great snow suit for Anna, then went to Once Upon a Child and found some great deals on stuff we NEEDED... no guilt involved... I actually felt proud of myself.
